Eruptions force three airports to close temporarily in Indonesia

(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency) The eruptions of two Indonesian volcanoes prompted the closure of three airports on Thursday, officials said, according to dpa.

Mount Raung in East Java province continued to spew ash and rocks,
forcing authorities to temporarily close airports in Surabaya, the
country's second largest city, and the nearby town of Malang, the
Transport Ministry said.

Surabaya's Juanda airport and Malang's Abdul Rachman Saleh
airport would not re-open until 7.20 pm (1220 GMT) and 8.30 pm (1330
GMT) respectively, the ministry said in a statement.

Last week, ash from Mount Raung forced the closure of five airports,
leaving thousands of passengers stranded.

The volcano has been ejecting ash and erupting mildly since June.

The eruption of another volcano, Mount Gamalama, forced the closure
of Sultan Baabullah airport on Ternate island, the ministry said.
