Chinese economy grows 7 percent in 2nd quarter of 2015

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) China's economy showed moderate but steady growth, the National Bureau of Statistics said in a statement Wednesday announcing 7 percent growth in the second quarter of 2015.

Despite concerns about external and domestic economic conditions and analysts' expectations of less growth, the country's GDP reached 29.7 trillion yuan ($4.9 trillion) in the first half of 2015 € an increase of 7 percent from the previous year.

Both quarters of this year experienced 7 percent growth year-on-year, with the GDP rising 1.7 percent from the first to the second.

The bureau's spokesperson Sheng Laiyun said the figures that exceeded expectations had come after the government implemented measures in macro-control and adherence to structural reforms.

"Policies rolled out by central authorities to stabilize growth, boost reforms and restructuring, improve livelihoods and prevent risks have played significant roles for the economy," he told a press conference.

"We have generated more than 7 million jobs in six months," he added, underlining the aim of reaching a total of 10 million by the end of 2015.

Meanwhile, the first half also witnessed the industrial output increase by 6.3 percent, fixed-asset investment by 11.4 percent and property investment by 4.6 percent year-on-year.

"We think economic growth in the latter half of the year will most likely outperform that in the first half," Sheng said.
