Five Boko Haram militants killed in N.Cameroon: Source

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) At least five Boko Haram militants were killed late Tuesday night by the Cameroonian military near the Nigerian border, according to a local security source.

"Three terrorists were killed in clashes with the Cameroonian army in Kerawa and another two killed in clashes in Zhelevet," a security source, requesting anonymity, told Anadolu Agency.

Both Kerawa and Zhelevet are located in Cameroon's Far North region.

The source did not mention any casualties among Cameroonian army troops.

The clashes occurred one day after twin suicide bombings killed 13 people in Fotokol, a town in the Far North region near the Nigerian border.

Seven soldiers, including four Chadian and three Cameroonian troops, were injured in the attack in Fotokol.

No group claimed responsibility for the twin attacks, but Cameroonian authorities attributed them to Nigeria's Boko Haram militant group.

Regional efforts to reign in Boko Haram have intensified as the group continues to stage bloody attacks in Chad, Niger and Cameroon, as well as Nigeria.

The Cameroonian army has deployed some 6,000 troops on its border with Nigeria to prevent infiltration by Boko Haram militants.
