Italy court jails 11 ex-Pirelli executives for asbestos deaths

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) An Italian court on Wednesday handed out jail sentences to 11 former officials of multinational tyre maker Pirelli for the asbestos-related deaths of 24 employees who had worked in the group's factories.

The Milan court sentenced the former company executives to serve from three to seven years and eight months in prison over the deaths that occurred in the 1970s and 1980s, AGI news agency said.

The 24 workers died because of the presence of asbestos fibres in two of Pirelli's factories in Milan, northern Italy, it added.
