Qatar- Festival bonanza in store for shoppers

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Malls, supermarkets, showrooms and hotels in the country have announced special prices on numerous items and products as part of the Eid al-Fitr promotions.

A cross section of the residents told Gulf Times it was a buyer's market in the true sense. "With the exception of a few outlets, almost all the big players are offering really attractive prices on a large variety of items," a resident said.

The Ansar Gallery Barwa Commercial Avenue branch has launched a mall-wide promotion ahead of the holidays.

At the electronics section, the mall offers "low prices" for smartphones, particularly some of the Samsung models. They are also offering laptops, smart televisions, entertainment/home theatres/ accessories, cameras, as well as appliances at attractive prices.

"Our customers will have the opportunity to shop and get the items they want at very low prices this Eid al-Fitr," said an official of Ansar. The promotion will run until July 22.

Other outlets are trying to woo customers with raffle draws, cash vouchers and promotions like "buy 2 and get 1 free".

Since many residents will be travelling, malls and hypermarkets such as LuLu and Al Meera are offering special prices for luggage and bags.

Toys and apparel both for children and adults also have become cheaper.

An official of Al Meera said that besides dry goods, they were offering special prices for fresh items like vegetables, meat, fish and sea foods.

"After Ramadan, we expect residents to buy large quantities of food items," he added. In other malls such as City Center Doha and Hyatt Plaza, some boutiques and shops have initiated their own promotions and sales.

The shopping bonanza apart, the country is also gearing up to stage a slew of entertainment programmes.

City Center Doha general manager Joerg Harengerd said that they were all set for the holiday celebrations and ready to host exclusive shows and activities in co-operation with the Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA).

He noted that they would be participating in the mall promotions set from August 1 to 31, which is part of QTA's Qatar Summer Festival.

Qatar's top tourist and cultural attractions such as Souq Waqif will host many exciting shows and activities for families and children from July 18 to 23. These include face painting, angry bird game, cartoons drawings and daily concerts.

The fireworks at Katara € the Cultural Village from the first day of Eid al-Fitr up to July 20 is expected to attract many spectators. Visitors will also have the opportunity to watch "A Land of Inventions (in Arabic)" performance from 7.30pm to 9.30pm.

A group of Filipino restaurants plan to hold the first Filipino Food Festival in Qatar at Al Dafna (located between the Philippine embassy in the Jelaiah area and Qatar University) from 9am to 10pm as part of the Eid celebration.
