Court orders compensation in Oman Cables labour case

Date:

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The Primary Court in Seeb on Monday ordered Oman Cables Industry to pay RO942810 in an individual labour case filed against the company for unfair dismissal and seeking compensation amounting to around RO8.5mn.

'The company is updating shareholders that the Primary Court has passed its judgment on Monday July 13 2015 wherein the verdict obliges the company to pay the amount of RO942810.279 comprising of various elements to the other party' Oman Cables informed the MSM on Tuesday.

Oman Cables said the verdict would not have a major impact on the financials of the company. It said a 30-day period is granted to both parties to appeal and the company will update shareholders on this topic.

In September 2013 Oman Cables had received an individual labour complaint filed against the company by an employee before the department of labour disputes at the Ministry of Manpower (MoM) which included claims for unfair dismissal and compensation.

Oman Cables in a January 2014 disclosure said that no settlement was reached before MoM's department of labour and that the case has been referred to the labour department of the Primary Court in Seeb.
