(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) A team from Oman has won the third place in the Khawatir Volunteer Competition organised by popular Arabic TV programme Khawatir. The show which began in 2004 is broadcast on Dubai-based Arabic channel MBC 1 everyday during Ramadan.
The team Sawa Nabny (together we build in English) was awarded the prize by host Ahmad al Shugairi on the show's episode aired on Monday night. Shugairi appreciated the team's efforts and its concerted activities. Founded in January last year the team which has helped 12 families in Muscat so far decided to take part in the competition nearly three months ago after seeing an Instagram post.
'We saw a post on Instagram inviting entries from teams engaged in volunteering activities for this programme' Rawiya al Busaidi a Sawa Nabny member said. The competition which saw as many as 1000 entries from across the Arab region intends to recognise groups that embody ideas promoted by Khawatir throughout its programmes. This is Khawatir's final season. A team from Sudan won the first place. Elaborating on her team's activities Rawiya said it collects furniture and household items and then distributes them to needy families in the city.'
The items collected include beds rugs cabinets washing machines ovens and air conditioners. "We collect used furniture and household items from people who want to donate them to needy families and even undertake renovation work for such families.' Rawiya added "People inform us about the needy families and we visit them to see how we can help.'
Speaking about the team's future plans she said "We would like to expand our reach and work for families outside Muscat and do a lot more than this.' Comprising 55 members the team also includes students from colleges and schools. Sawa Nabny works under the umbrella of Al Rahma Charity organisation.
