Qatargas releases sustainability report

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Qatargas has issued its 2014 Sustainability Report, which covers the company's economic, environmental, and social performance, the company announced in a statement.

Some of the company's key performance highlights in 2014 include the completion of the $1bn Jetty Boil-off Gas Recovery project, 100% reliable deliveries, 80% of procurement awards made locally, 34% reduction in flaring, 21% reduction in recordable injuries, 6% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, and zero significant spills.

The report, Qatargas' fifth sustainability report, includes historical performance data, achievements in 2014, and future activities. Its key feature describes how Qatargas moved closer to its 2015 vision of becoming the world's premier liquefied natural gas (LNG) company.

This, according to Qatargas, reflected all key performance indicators of the vision's five major pillars: safety, health, and environmental performance; customer satisfaction; high caliber and diverse workforce; efficient and reliable operations; and financial performance.

The report also contains an overview of the LNG market in 2014 and graphics illustrating the Qatargas value chain from the well-head, off-shore Qatar, to customers worldwide. It also discusses the significant rise in employee training and continued increase in Qatargas' community investment budget.

Qatargas said improvements in health and safety performance has positioned the company as a sector leader, "but work remains in order to achieve an incident and injury-free workplace."

According to Qatargas, Qatarisation also remains an ongoing priority with 24% of the workforce comprising Qatari nationals in 2014, "almost halfway towards the 2020 target of 50%."

Qatargas added that it used national and international reporting guidelines provided by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), International Petroleum Industry Environmental Conservation Association (IPIECA), American Petroleum Institute (API), International Oil and Gas Producers Association (OGP), and the Qatar Energy and Industry Sector Sustainability (QEISS) Programme in preparing the report.
