Qatar- Gianfranco Zola unveiled as head coach of Al Arabi

Gianfranco Zola is the new Head Coach of Al Arabi F.C. the Sardinian who turned 49 last week was unveiled in Qatar yesterday evening.

Zola has previously managed West Ham United between 2008-2010 Italy’s U16 between 2011 and 2012 Watford between 2012 and 2013 and his most recent job was at Serie A with Cagliari last season.

He is considered one of the best Italian players ever having represented Napoli between 1989 and 1993 Parma between 1993 and 1996 and his most glorious period came in the blue colours of Chelsea where he made 229 appearances and won several titles including the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup UEFA Super Cup FA Cup and Football League Cup.



Al Sadd appoints new goalkeeping coach

Al Sadd Sports Club announced the appointment of Italian Nandi Scarpalo as the new goalkeeping coach for the first team; the Italian will take charge for the new Qatar Stars League season.

Scarpalo worked before with Italian giants Juventus and has already started supervising training session with the Wolves goalkeepers from last Sunday.



Al Kharaitiyat’s squad at full capacity during preseason training

Al Kharaitiyat Sports Club had their full squad available for their evening training sessions last Sunday.

The team’s foreign stars have now arrived back to Doha and joined up with teammates they include the Brazilian Domingos Nascimento Jordanian striker Hassan Abdel Fattah the Moroccan Anwar Diba and Yahia Kebe.

The training session was led by the Bosnian head coach Ammar Osim and his assistant Tawfeeq Zaabob as well as the rest of the technical staff.

Al Kharaitiyat will continue their training sessions in Doha until they travel to Slovenia in August for their overseas preseason training camp during which time the team will play four friendly games.



Sami Trabelsi: “new signings will bolster Al Sailiya”

Al Sailiya Sports Club Head Coach Sami Trabelsi (right) has said that the three new foreign signings who joined Al Sailiya recently will help and give the team the necessary impetus to succeed.

The foreign signings are: Romanian defender Dragos Grigore Brazilian Éder Luciano and Cameroonian Raoul Cédric Loé as well as the Bahraini international Fawzi Ayesh.

The squad resumed their training sessions after the two-day rest granted to the players by Trabelsi.

Bahraini international Fawzi Ayesh will arrive into Doha on Wednesday July 15 and will join up with teammates to start preseason training.



Youth players promoted to Qatar Sports Club’s first team

Iraqi Head Coach Radhi Shenaishil has decided to blood four youth players next season due to their distinguished performances in the reserve team. Shenaishil believes that these players have what it takes to make an impact next season and also add more depth to the squad.

The four players are: Anbar Said Moataz Maged Youssef Hani Ballan and el Abdel Aziz Metwally.

The four players have already joined the first team in their training sessions and will also join the main squad who will travel to Barcelona Spain for the preseason training camp.



Emad Tuma praises discipline of Qatar Sports Club players

Qatar Sports Club assistant coach Emad Tuma stressed the importance of the first stage of preseason preparations to qsl.com.qa “This is the launching point for the new season which is considered the initial stage during which the players shall be prepared physically for the next phase of the external training camp in Europe.”

Tuma added: “A programme was set to prepare the team well during the training camp in Spain in all aspects such as physical psychological or technical. We are looking forward to achieving the best possible results with the hope that this will be reflected in our league fixtures next season.”

Sangoy: “I will do my best to achieve our targets with Al Wakrah.”

Al Wakrah Sports Club convened an official press conference on Sunday evening to introduce their new Argentinean player Gastón Sangoy who signed a two-year contract.

The press conference was convened in the presence of Ahmed al-Mahmoud the Club Assistant General Secretary Abdullah Saqr the Deputy Head of Football Ahmed Qandil the Club Manager Mohamed al-Sulaiti the Media Director and the player himself.

Al-Mahmoud spoke during the press conference and wished the new player all the best with the team. He hoped that the new signing would be good compensation to the fans who last year had to endure a difficult season.

Al-Mahmoud also said that the player participated in 26 games in the Cypriot League in addition to 4 games in the Europa League last season.



Al Rayyan makes moves in the summer transfer window

Al Rayyan Sports Club announced the signing of Abdullah Khalid from Al Shahania for three seasons. The player signed the contract in the presence of the Head of Football Ali Salem Ofaifah.

This is the third signing from Al Shahania following the acquisition of goalkeeper Khalifa al-Ammari and Pascu. In addition Mohamed Salah al-Neeli renewed his contract for three seasons effective from July 2016. The contract was signed in the presence of the club’s Head of Football Ali Salem Ofaifah Team Manager Mazkar al-Shafi Team Official Omar al-Azzani and the player’s agent Fahad al-Yami.
