UAE- Smart shopping campaign in Al Ain

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The Markets Control Unit of Abu Dhabi Food Control Author-ity (ADFCA) has launched a campaign to educate consumers on how to make the shopping more smart and safe.

The three-day campaign - being held in Al Ain - targets consumers visiting shopping complexes and trade centres during Ramadan. The campaign is being held as part of ADFCA's special programme to ensure food safety during Ramadan, focusing on raising awareness among consumers on safe and smart ways of buying food products.

ADFCA officials engaged in one-to-one talk with consumers and distributed publicity materials con-taining information on how to buy, transport and store food products in a safe and scientific way.

Mohammed Jalal Al Rayssi, Director of Communication & Community Service Division at ADFCA, said: "The campaign sheds light on the fact that food safety cannot be attained by mere in-spections and other government control activities; rather it should be seen as everybody's responsibility. Consumers are an integral part in our task to ensure safety of food. A responsible and well-informed consumer is most needed to make all other government activities successful."

He said there are some simple practices consumers neglect but have great impact on the safety side of food. "Keeping raw and cooked food separate, picking meat and fish only at the end of shopping, placing certain items immediately in the refrigerator and reading labels to know the date of production and expiry are some of the safety tips. When we ignore them we are actu-ally playing with our safety," he said.

He urged the public to be more responsible while shopping and make a good plan before entering the market.
