Oman- 527 spots earmarked for slaughter waste disposal


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources (MRMWR) has earmarked 527 points for disposal of waste generated from Eid sacrifices. To ensure proper waste collection and disposal the ministry will provide round-the-clock services during the holidays to maintain hygiene.

The Directorate General of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources in South Batinah has allocated 117 sites with Barka getting 44 Rustaq 42 and Musannah 15 among others. North Batinah will have close to 110 sites with a majority of them in Suwaiq and Liwa.

The governorates of North and South Sharqiyah will have close to hundred collection points while Dhahirah will have 50 Dakhliyah 58 Al Wusta 24 Buraimi 16 and Musandam 54.

All municipal bodies associated with the ministry will be working to ensure continuous transfer of waste to avoid accumulation and rotting at dumpsites. Fumigation will be carried out at various locations including slaughterhouses and garbage sites while the number of waste collection vehicles and personnel will be increased during the holiday period.

'Due to increase in animal slaughter during Eid the ministry is coordinating with concerned authorities and municipal slaughterhouses in various governorates to provide additional butchers and cleaners to get rid of the waste' said an MRMWR official.

The ministry has urged the public to use slaughterhouses for sacrifice as veterinarians conduct checks before and after slaughter to ensure that the meat is safe for consumption.

The official added that the ministry has strengthened workforce at its 40 slaughterhouses so that customers don't have to wait in long queues.

The ministry has urged people to dispose animal waste at designated spots only to facilitate its easy transfer to landfill sites.
