Qatar- array of events for expat workers during Eid days

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The Ministry of Interior (MoI) will hold cultural, sports and recreational activities for the country's expatriates on the first two days of Eid al-Fitr.

Informing this yesterday, MoI's Public Relations Department director Col Abdullah Khalifa al-Muftah said the events were being held in association with Asian Town and Barwa Real Estate Company.

The venues for the activities, the main attraction of which is a cricket tournament featuring six teams, would be Asian Town (previously known as West End Park) and Barwa's Workers' Recreation Complex in the Al Khor Industrial Area. The activities will be held between 3pm and 10pm.

Along with Col al-Muftah, Barwa real estate development affairs adviser Ali Mohamed al-Darbasti, Ibin Ajayan Projects chairman Mohamed Mehdi Ajayan al-Ahbabi and head of the cricket tournament's organising committee Azeem Abbas were present during the briefing, which was held at the Officers' Club of the General Directorate of Civil Defence.

At the Barwa workers' complex in Al Khor, orchestras representing the country's Indian and Nepalese communities, Sariga and Popins, will perform between 4pm and 9pm on both days.

The Al Khor complex will also host the finals of the volleyball and cricket
tournaments, organised as part of Ramadan Championship 2015 by the
MoI for companies and communities, on the first day.

On the second day, the finals of the football and basketball tournaments will be held at the same venue.

At the meeting yesterday, al-Ahbabi said his company was committed to developing Asian Town as a permanent venue for cultural and sports events for expatriate communities.

Expressing happiness at the MoI's decision to hold its annual cricket tournament for expatriates, he said the amphitheatre at the complex, four cinemas and other facilities were good enough to meet the requirements of a sizeable section of expatriate workers.

While explaining the features of the Barwa Workers' Recreation Complex in Al Khor Industrial Area, al-Darbasti said it comprised four football grounds, four cricket fields, four volleyball courts, three basketball courts and four kabaddi fields, two open-air cinemas, one mosque, 35 shops and a hypermarket.

Entry to the events at Al Khor Barwa Workers' Recreation Complex and the cricket stadium in Asian Town is free.

The organisers have also lined up a number of prizes for the public through a raffle draw and made special seating arrangements for families.

Companies that are interested in sending their workers to these events can co-ordinate with Bahauddeen (30396976) for Al Khor and Siraj (33587015) for Asian Town.
