Nazaha orders probe into stalled projects
(MENAFN- Arab News) RIYADH: The National Anti-Corruption Commission (Nazaha) has recently disclosed its move to investigate reasons behind the delay in government projects. The projects are worth SR68 million.
According to Nazaha spokesperson Abdul Rahman Al-Ajlan the decision was taken following a number of complaints from citizens about various projects that have been stalled in Al-Ahsa and Madinah.
'Pursuant to the terms of reference of the commission Nazaha made its own verification of those complaints and discovered delays in the implementation of five school complexes for boys and girls in the Aziziah neighborhood of Madinah which have been allocated SR63.915.337 in the Ministry of Education budget' said the spokesman.
The budgeted amount also covered Tamam bin Abbas elementary and high schools the construction of Salim bin Ma'aqal complex and two other school complexes for girls.
He said the delay in implementing the projects ranges from two to five years leaving 48 to 80 percent of the projects completed on the ground.
'We also noted the weakness in the follow-up and supervision of these projects and delays in their implementation after the withdrawal of some of the contractors despite the lapse of about seven years from the date of their commissioning' he said.
'In this context Nazaha is coordinating with the concerned authorities to take action to investigate the causes of the delays in these projects' he observed.
He said they would like to identify the causes of the delays in order to hold those responsible for negligence and shortcomings in supervision and follow-up.
In this context he said laws will be applied against those involved in order to push the pace of progress. The spokesman also stated that Nazaha has inspected the renovation of roads including asphalting and lighting of Bani Maan and Al-Batalih in Ahsa Eastern Province and found a delay in completion of the project.
According to him the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs (MMRA) allotted a budget amounting to SR40 million with 360 days to implement the project from the date of delivery of the site to the contractor in 2011.
