Qatar- Arab expat gets 9 months jail for robbing motorist

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) A Doha Criminal Court has awarded a suspended jail term to a man for robbing a motorist and impersonating a police detective, local Arabic daily Arrayah has reported.

The prison term is for nine months, which will remain suspended over a three-year period. The court has also ordered his deportation.

The man, an Arab expatriate, had stopped a driver and forcibly entered his vehicle. Posing as a detective, he asked the motorist for his ID and driving licence.

When the driver took out his wallet, he grabbed it, took out QR450 and left the spot.

The driver then approached a police patrol vehicle, which was deployed nearby, and narrated the incident.

The police managed to pursue the accused and returned the money to the victim.

In the court, the victim renounced his legal rights and the court gave the convict a lenient sentence.
