Institute of Internal Auditors Qatar chapter receives honour

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) The Institute of Internal Auditors Qatar Chapter was recognised for demonstrating a passion for internal auditing by its global parent body.

Each May, internal auditors around the world celebrate International Internal Audit Awareness Month. The IIA's Building Awareness Champion programme recognises chapters for their outstanding participation in Awareness Month. The efforts help to promote understanding about the value that an independent internal audit function brings to good governance, risk management, and internal control.

"The IIA awarded Qatar chapter along with 26 others globally for demonstrating a passion for internal auditing that helps raise the profile of the profession and strengthens stakeholders' understanding of what internal auditors do for their organizations. This is the second year in succession that Qatar chapter is bestowed with this recognition" stated Sundaresan Rajeswar, Board member and contact person of the IIA Qatar

"Chapter should continue to advocate for the profession. Many practitioners worldwide identify with refrain, "I am proud to be internal auditor." Our pride will shine brighter when awareness about our profession reaches all corners of the globe. A continuous focus on building awareness will take us even further" IIA President and CEO Richard Chambers said.

Next year will mark the 75th anniversary of The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA). This provides an ideal time to showcase and promote the internal audit profession, raise the visibility of the collective efforts and successes. The 2016 conference will be held under the theme Internal Audit Rising: 75 years of Progress Through Sharing

Last week the IIA announced the election of Lawrence J Harrington, chief audit executive of Raytheon Company, as chairman of the 2015-2016 Global Board of Directors.

"Larry is among the most inspiring and passionate leaders in internal auditing, and I know the profession will benefit from his energy and drive during his term as global chairman," said Richard Chambers.

Harrington said he plans to use his term as chairman to urge internal auditors worldwide to invest in themselves in ways that develop their skills as internal auditors.
