Schaeuble rules out debt reduction for Greece

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) German finance minister Wolfgang Schaeuble Saturday said Eurozone finance ministers "will have extraordinarily difficult discussions today in contrast to impressions so far." " We need to deal with financing vacuums that are the same with those we were discussing about in the past. Until now we have been discussing about the completion of the previous program alone, now we are talking about a new three-year program. We know that according to European treaties debt reduction is not possible," he told journalists as he arrived for the meeting.

"I can't see an easy result out of these very difficult discussions," he said and noted that a few days ago there was a referendum in Greece "where a great majority rejected the conditionalities, now we have the opposite, but numbers look terribly bad." On his part Hans Jreg Schelling, Austrian finance minister, said the new financial aid for Greece is calculated at 72 billion euro, including the IMF contribution.

"It is a considerable amount covering the next three years, but after that it has to be made sure that Greece regains access to financial markets, if this doesn't happen I'm not sure I can achieve an approval by the Austrian parliament," he added
