Eurozone ministers resume talks on Greece amid little hope for a deal

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Finance Ministers of the Eurogroup resume discussions in Brussels Sunday regarding the Greek government's request for an aid programme but expectations of an agreement are very low.

European Commission Vice-President in charge of the Euro, Valdis Dombrovskis, told journalists as he arrived for the meeting that discussions are complicated and it is "relatively unlikely" that the EU Commission would today get the mandate for negotiations on a third bailout for Greece. "We hope for progress today" he added.

On his part, Finnish finance ministers Alexander Stubb said "we are all trying very constructively to find a solution in a very difficult situation. The conditionality that has been presented by the Greeks is simply not enough at this stage. We need to have clear commitments, clear conditionality and clear proofs that those conditions will be implemented." Peter Kazimir, Deputy Prime Minister of Slovakia and Minister for Finance said "it is not possible there will be deal today," while Pier Carlo Padoan, Minister of Economy and Finance of Italy, said the "main obstacle is lack of trust." Meanwhile, European Council President Donald Tusk announced that a summit meeting of 28-EU leaders which was scheduled for Sunday evening has been cancelled.

He tweeted that a summit of 19 eurozone leaders will be held this afternoon to discuss the Greek situation.
