(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) Over one million more people are living in the European Union in 2015 compared to 2014, the 28-nation bloc's statistical office Eurostat reported on Friday.
On 1 January 2015, the population of the EU was estimated to be 508.2 million, compared to 506.9 million on 1 January 2014, according to Eurostat.
Germany, France, the United Kingdom and Italy are the most populated member states, making up more than half of the EU population.
The population increase is driven partly by births exceeding deaths in the EU but mainly by net migration.
Today's report comes amid EU member states struggling to deal with illegal migration, where many people risk their lives to reach Europe.
