Saudi- Panel to probe mystery over girls' injuries at rehab center
(MENAFN- Arab News) MADINAH: A committee has been formed to uncover the mystery surrounding a case in which three girls recently received different types of injuries at the Madinah Comprehensive Rehabilitation Center (female section) local media reported.
Sources at the General Directorate of Social Affairs have been quoted as saying that the committee includes the president of the medical team at the rehabilitation center a member of the monitoring authority and a member of the medical team working in the female section of the center.
The three girls were taken to the King Fahd Hospital in Madinah for treatment of injuries including burns bleeding from the nose and a fractured ankle.
Inmate (B1) 16 years old who received first-degree burns to her genitalia was given first aid before the head of the medical team at the center received her to complete her treatment at the inpatient clinic of the center.
The other girl also 16 years old had suffered a fracture on the ankle while the third inmate received a blow to the nose causing a minor bleeding.
The committee is expected to start an investigation into the case after reviewing CCTV footage. The investigation is expected to reveal details of the incident and decide whether there were criminal actions or the incidents happened because of negligence.
When local media contacted Al-Ghamidi with queries he said that a team had taken over the investigation and that action will be taken against anyone is found guilty. He however added that the center offers quality services to all the inmates or patients.
Two years ago the center had reportedly registered cases of neglect after several inmates were found have been injured and some died. The incident had prompted the Social Affairs Ministry to take a series of measures including a change in the administration to prevent recurrence of such an incident.
The center has CCTV cameras in various sections and departments and the footage from these cameras may come in handy for the probe committee.
