Qatar- Over 40,000 visit Aspire Zone Foundation's Ramadan Festival


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Aspire Zone Foundation's (AZF) Ramadan Sports Festival has concluded after two weeks of sport, social and cultural activities, attracting a record 40,000 visitors.

As in previous years, Aspire Zone proved to be one of the most popular destinations during the holy month. The festival included entertainment, sports, competitions, religious events and Garangao celebration, among others, at AZF facilities. Over 5,000 people, including children, took part in Garangao festivity.

Nasser Abdullah Al Hajri, Marketing Director, AZF, said: "As this year's festival draws to a close, I hope that we have fulfilled our promise by presenting a comprehensive collection of events and activities. I also hope that new events this year satisfied all participants. Our activities reflect AZF's focus on encouraging people to adopt healthy and active lifestyles year-round."

During the 17-day festival, Aspire Zone partnered with Sheikh Thani bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanitarian Services (RAF) to host 'Bashaa'ir Ar Rahmah' that included religious lectures entitled 'Ramadan Erada' by clerics such as Dr Aaidh Al Qarni, Mohammed Al Oraifi, Omar Abdulkafi and others.

More than 11,000 people attended the lectures, including 7,000 at Torch Hotel and a large number of people watched them via a live stream or on YouTube. Footage of the lectures was also available in sign language.

Aspire Mosque hosted 12 Quran readers to lead Isha and Taraweeh prayers, while about 600-800 Iftar meals were distributed daily as part of the 'Road Iftar' programme in cooperation with RAF. For the first time, AZF organised 'Freej Aspire' to revive Qatari customs and traditions. It was inaugurated by Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage

He said the event covers all aspects of Qatari life in a way that connects people to their culture and traditions and praised the Freej's role in educating younger generations on Qatar's history. Over 25,000 people visited 'Freej Aspire'.

AZF and Qatar Charity introduced 'Sloom Ahel Qatar' to revive Qatari traditions and customs. The programme included lectures, forums, traditional competitions and opportunities for visitors to learn about photography, sailing, falcon training and other activities.

About 1,300 people and 100 teams took part in 12 competitions for men and women and events for people with special needs.

The festival included new events and competitions such as Aspire Banks Tournament in partnership with Qatar Central Bank involving eight teams; Aspire Embassies Tournament involving 12 teams from diplomatic missions and junior futsal, women's futsal and Aspire staff futsal.

AZF and Qatar Paralympic Committee also held competitions for people with special needs, and contests for women, in cooperation with Qatar Woman's Sports Committee.
