Erekat Meets European Peace Envoy

(MENAFN- QNA) Member of the PLO Executive Committee Saeb Erekat met today with the European Chief Envoy to the Middle East Peace Process Fernando Gentilini.

During the meeting Erekat confirmed that the Israeli government is still continuing its settlement policy, imposing facts on the ground, rejecting to release of prisoners and pressing ahead with besiege, closure, destruction of houses and demolition of lands, thus turning a deaf ear to the international legality resolutions, recommendations of human rights organizations, the International Court of Justice and all appeals by world countries for the halt of settlement activities and the recognition of the two-state solution on the 1967 borders.

He stressed that all parties calling for the resumption of negotiations, should compel Israel to halt the settlement policy, release the prisoners, namely the fourth batch of the pre-Oslo prisoners, and the acceptance of the two-state solution on the 1967 borders, saying any negotiations before the attainment of those conditions would only be negotiations of the sake of negotiations and for remaining in the same vicious circle of the successive Israeli governments.

Erekat called on the international community to question the Israeli government, to force it respect the international law and to halt its practices aimed at undermining the two-state solution foremost of which being the continued settlement activities.
