The recent reopening of a key section of Najma Street in the Al Hilal area has not only boosted the movement of vehicles but also improved the earnings of Mowasalat public buses operating through the area it is learnt.

The stretch which connects C-Ring Road with D-Ring Road extends from the Al Mansoura intersection (Gulf Cinema signal) to Al Nuaija intersection (The Mall signal). The temporary closure was necessitated by the conversion of the roundabout near Woqod fuel station into a signalised intersection and the addition of another lane to Najma Street on this stretch.

"During the closure passengers had absolutely no clue about the routes through which the buses were operated. So many services were running without a single passenger at times" a driver said adding that things are improving fast and many people have resumed their bus journeys.

It is found that some of the services operating through the area are getting a sizeable number of passengers even late in the evening. While the buses generally ran empty while the road works were on and they were diverted through some neighbouring roads many passengers could now be seen waiting to board buses at stops along the routes including in Najma and Hilal it is understood.

Meanwhile some regular travellers have been repeatedly requesting for diversions from the current routes after the Al Nuaija intersection while they are heading towards the Medical Commission area. Many of these commuters feel the existing "long" route taken by one of the buses through the Hilal area is of little use for those who travel especially on weekends. Instead they suggest bus operations through the stretch of Najma Street that connects the Al Thumama signal with F-Ring Road.

Passengers also feel it is high time buses between the Industrial Area and Doha Bus Station operated through Barwa City Religious Complex Najma Street and B-Ring Road.
