UN welcomes humanitarian ceasefire in Yemen

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon welcomed the decision by Yemeni stakeholders on Thursday to implement a humanitarian pause in the country's conflict, a UN statement revealed.

Ki-moon reiterated in the statement his belief that the only sustainable solution is through, "peaceful and inclusive dialogue and negotiations." The pause will begin on Friday to allow humanitarian actors to reach civilians as accepted in a letter by Yemeni President Abdrabuh Mansour Hadi to UN Secretary-General earlier this week.

The UN Special Envoy on Yemen, Ould Cheikh Ahmed indicated that the Houthis, the General People's Congress and other parties will fully respect "that there will be no violations from any combatants under their control." "It is imperative and urgent that humanitarian aid can reach all vulnerable people of Yemen unimpeded and through an unconditional humanitarian pause," the Secretary-General's Spokesperson, StØ£©phane Dujarric, told reporters at the UN this afternoon.
