Erdogan assigns outgoing PM Davutoglu to form new gov't

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has commissioned outgoing Prime Minister Ahmed Davutoglu to form the country's 63rd government, official media reported Thursday.

Erdogan asked Davutoglu to form the new government during their meeting at the presidential palace in Ankara, presidential press office said in a statement, according to Anadolu Agency (AA).

"As of now we have started efforts to fulfill this duty and firstly we will hold talks with the chairmen of political parties," Davutoglu stated to reporters, adding that the first round of the negotiations over "government partnership" will run to July 15th, AA reported.

He also mentioned that the second round of meetings will be held in accordance with the atmosphere following the end of the Holy Month of Ramadan.

Davutoglu now has 45 days to form a government around the Justice and Development (AK) Party, which gained the largest share of parliamentary seats in the June 7th general election.

If Davutoglu failed to form a coalition government, the President should offer the second-placed party the chance to create an administration within the same 45-day period.

If this does not succeed, the President must call a fresh election and appoint a Premier within five days to form an interim government consisting of representatives from all four parties. (end)
