Al Ghurair's gesture mirrors vision of UAE's leadership: paper

(MENAFN- Emirates News Agency (WAM)) A UAE paper has said that the decision by Emirati businessman Abdullah Ahmad Al Ghurair to pledge one third of his assets to an education foundation is a statement of intent not just of his charitable and visionary disposition but also resounding proof of the UAE's leadership in humanitarian and charitable causes.

"Al Ghurair hopes to improve the state of education in the Arab world by catering to underprivileged youth. He has pledged a staggering AED4.2 billion, as an initial budget, towards realising this noble goal," said Gulf News in an editorial on Thursday.

The UAE's visionary leaders had foreseen long ago that the best means to drive the assets of a country forward was by investing in the promise of youth. This example has been emulated. The Al Ghurair Group is furthering this goal with its commitment. The country's landscape also has rich examples of leading Emirati businessmen being involved in philanthropic pursuits and their concern has been selfless.

The timing of the launch of the foundation was not lost, coinciding with UAE Humanitarian Work Day, marked during Ramadan, and held to honour the legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. Innovative high-impact programmes spread to improve the quality of education at the primary and secondary levels are at the crux of this foundation's activities. The seeds of a prosperous, progressive and inclusive society have been sown early to ensure the empowerment of future leaders.

"The process of seeking out talent will be rigorous but qualitative and transparent so that each individual is primed to leave a legacy," concluded the Dubai-based daily.
