(MENAFN- Arab Times) Vasu and Nestor Farinas topped the whole tournament and came out as the strongest, emerging as the Malaya Cup 2015 official champions on Friday July 3, 2015 at the Nasser Sports Club.
The three-week tournament was held every Friday with the first and second weeks slated for the eliminations and ranking as they paired and sparred against one another in their respective categories. Other players who took the Championship Award are the following: Level B winners Bonnie Lazatin and Arnel Miguel, Level C winners Heidi Mortel and Josie Tanco and Level D winners Henedine Bermudez and Sheng Frugal.
This event, which promotes sportsmanship and camaraderie, would not have been realized without the time and effort of the organizers: the Filipino Badminton Club in Kuwait FILBACK, their officers and members along with their overall tournament Director Noel Candolesas and tournament Director Alex Hernandez who worked together to promote the tournament and ensure its success.
Level A
In the advance category or Level A, Vasu and Nestor bagged the Championship Title as they showed their classic moves when they slammed Arjay and Jess in the finals 21-12, 21-16. Arjay Juan and Jess Sibunga were declared as the 1st Runner Up Winner.
In the semi-finals, Arjay and Jess notched up their game by defeating Edison Dela Cruz and Allan Sayoto 21-19, 18- 21, 21-16. The two were proclaimed 2nd Runner Up Winner in Level A.
During the Double Knock-out Round, partners Nestor and Vasu advanced to the finals as they won 3 matches by showing no mercy towards the other teams. They showed their A game by smashing Arjay and Jess 21-16, 21-18, by crushing duo Roy and Amith 21-20, 21-9 and conquering team Edison and Allan 21-14, 21-14.
On the other hand, Edison and Allan were able to outclass and won 2 matches against Richard and Fallah 21-16, 21-18 and team Matthew and Gerry 21-8, 20-21, 21-16 which gave them the advantage to have a spot in the semi-finals.
In the quarter-finals, Arjay and Jess notched up their chance to move to the Semi-Final round by defeating Richard and Fallah 21-13, 21-20 and prevailing against Matthew and Gerry 21-19, 15-21, 21-16; who in turn defeated Roy and Amith 21-10, 15-21, 21-13.
Level B
For the Level B Category, Bonnie Lazatin and Arnel Miguel walked away with the First Prize award. They were able to win the prize by prevailing against Sid and Romeo in a 3-set match during the finals 8-21, 21-16, 21-11. Sid Ladia and Romeo Longalong were proclaimed 1st Runner Up in this category. Dan Isidro and Joel Lawagan came out as 2nd Runner Up when they were smashed by Sid and Romeo during the Semi-Finals 20-21, 21-9, 21-10.
Meanwhile during the Single Knock-out game, Addy and Glaiza defeated Sripad and Sanjay 16-21, 21-19, 21-18. Aleks and Eugene thumped Shirley and Michael 21-11, 21-12. Dan and Joel triumphed against Rome and Andy 21- 12, 21-18. Niranga and Maricel prevailed over Aravinda and Jecker 16-21, 21-14, 21-14. Bonnie and Arnel outclassed Shirley and Ambar 20-21, 21-18, 21-18. Ding and Jovie lost to Fred and Sibu 21-20, 10-21, 13-21, while Bong and Brent smashed Romeo and Yohan 21-19, 21-13.
In the Double Knock-out Round, Bonnie and Arnel aced their game by smashing Fred and Sibu 21-12, 21-17 and prevailing against Niranga and Maricel 10-21, 21-19, 21-13. On the other hand, Sid and Romeo as well moved up by winning against Addy and Glaiza 21-18, 21-8 and defeating Dan and Joel 21-6, 18-21, 21-11. Aleks and Eugene lost to Dan and Joel 17-21, 17-21 but were able to win against tandem Addy and Glaiza 21-18, 21-13; while Bong and Brent lost both their matches against Niranga and Maricel 19-21, 18-21 and team Fred and Sibu 21-10, 18-21, 10-21.
In the quarter-finals, Dan and Joel were able to secure a game in the semi-finals by moving up against Aleks and Eugene 21-14, 21-20 and team Fred and Sibu 21-9, 20-21, 21-16. Sid and Romeo thumped Bonnie and Arnel 21- 17, 21-17 while Niranga and Maricel were beaten by Aleks and Eugene 17-21, 17-21.
Level C
In the Level C category, Heidi Mortel and Josie Tanco came out on top and declared as Champions in this category. They prevailed against tandem Albert Naguit and Emily Capati who took the 1st Runner Up award as they smashed them during the final round 21-18, 21-14; while 2nd Runner Up winners Annalea Talampas and Mariecris Malilay got their award after losing in the Semi Final Round against Heidi and Josie 9-21, 17-21.
During the single knock out round, Melissa and Claire prevailed against Ariel and Jessa 21-18, 19-21, 21-15. Chito and Anne were defeated by Abby and Joy 21-18, 13-21, 17-21. Liya and Catherine thumped Liza and Sally 21-20, 21-18. Amor and Reina were vanquished by Lourdez and Nhing 10-21, 10-21, while Jimmy and partner lost to Rizalina and Apple 15-21, 21-14, 17-21.
During the double knock-out round, team Heidi and Josie came on top by overcoming their opponents Rizalina and Apple 21-20, 21-20 and smashing Nhing and Lourdez 21-10, 21-14. Albert and Emily also notched up their game by defeating Melissa and Claire 12-21, 21-19, 21-16 and prevailing against Annalea and Mariecris 21-12, 21-19. On the other hand, Abby and Joy did not make it to the quarter finals as they lost to Annalea and Maricris 15-21, 13-21 and were beaten by Melissa and Claire 21-14, 7-21, 15-21. Same goes with team Liya and Catherine as they were defeated by Nhing and Lourdez 21-16, 11-21, 20-21 and swept over by Rizalina and Apple 14-21, 21-16, 17-21.
In the quarter-finals, Annalea and Mariecris notched up their game by sweeping past Rizalina and Apple 21-12, 21- 19 and prevailing against Melissa and Claire 21-8, 16-21, 21-20. Heidi and Josie lost to Albert and Emily 21-9, 19- 21, 14-21; while Nhing and Lourdes were slammed by Melissa and Claire 13-21, 17-21.
Level D
In the Level D Category, the team who took the crown was that of Henidine Bermudez and Sheng Frugal. Ninette Regner and Christine David bagged the 1st Runner Up award as they lost in the final round against Henidine and Sheng 15-21, 21-19, 13-21. Julie Ann Laroya and Irene Raban walked away as 2nd Runner Up winners.
During the semi-finals, Ninette and Christine secured their spot for the Final Match by winning against 2 teams. They smashed their opponents Maricel and Jazelle 21-13, 21-16 and did not take chances by flattening out Julie and Irene 21-7, 21-10. Henidine and Sheng also moved up to the finals by vanquishing Irine and Julie 21-15, 21-15.
Meanwhile during the double knock out round, Julie and Irene notched up their game by defeating 2 teams: Maricel and Jazelle 21-14, 21-9 and team Rem and Mikaela 21-10, 21-19. Henedine and Sheng showed also their caliber as they outclassed 2 teams. They flattened Joy and Roger 21-8, 21-6 and defeated Ninette and Christine 21-14, 21- 16. On the other hand, Jury and Luna lost to Maricel and Jazelle 16-21, 14-21.
In the quarter-finals, Ninette and Christine showed what they got by defeating Rem and Mikaela 21-15, 21-16 who in turn defeated Jury and Luna 14-21, 21-19, 21-20. Maricel and Jazelle advanced to the semi finals by defeating Joy and Roger 21-11, 21-16.
