Merkel's govt. asked to apologize for detaining Al Jazeera scribe


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Head of the Legal Committee of the German parliament, Renate Kunast, has asked the government of Chancellor Angela Merkel to apologize to Ahmed Mansour, a senior Al Jazeera journalist, who was recently detained in Germany, Al Jazeera reported.

Mansour was arrested in June for three days at the request of an Egyptian court, while preparing to board a flight to Doha. Mansour was sentenced in absentia in Egypt to 15 years in jail on charges of torturing a lawyer during Egypt's 2011 revolution.
