Tunisian PM: UK to help with Sousse terror investigation


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Tunisian Prime Minister Habib Essid said Tuesday evening that the participation of Britons in the investigation, related to the recent terrorist attack in Sousse, is due to the number of casualties who are mostly British citizens.

In a local press interview Essid said that his country is committed to implementing the law, "but will not hand over any of their nationals to British authorities which will only help us in the investigation and uncover the truth." The Tunisian premier defended the decision to declare recently a state of emergency in Tunisia for a month, explaining that is caused by developments of the security situation in the country, also as a part of measures discussed by National Security Council meeting after consider all options.

Essid also pointed out that the decision was critical and is in the "interests of the country." Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi said a one-month state of emergency, which began last Saturday, aimed at confronting terrorism which has become a threat against the entire country, thus requiring collective capabilities to eliminate it.

Tunisia is experiencing exceptional circumstances following the terrorist attack against a hotel in Sousse, which killed 38 people, including 30 British tourists, and wounded 39 others, Essebsi said in a speech to the nation. (end)
