Kuwaiti team wins 17 medals including 6 gold in int'l tourney


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The national paralympic team has scored excellent results in the world tournament for juniors which concluded in the Netherlands late on Tuesday, bagging 17 medals, including six gold medals, eight silver and three bronze ones. Mansour Al-Sarheed, the head of the Kuwaiti team to the championship, told KUNA by telephone that the Kuwaiti champion Ahmad Naqa Al-Mutairi won three gold medals in the paralympic wheel-chair competition for 100 m, 200 m and 800 m categories.

His fellow citizen Dhari Batti won two gold medals, coming first in the discus and shot up competitions. He also won a silver medal in the javelin category.

Abdulaziz Al-Masoud won the sixth gold medal for the team in the mace throw. Abdulmohsen Al-Otaibi won a silver in the discus competition, coming second, while Faisal Al-Rajehi bagged four silver medals in the wheel-chair race for 1,500 m, 800 m, 400 m and 200 m, as well as a bronze in the 100 m race. His colleague, Abdulrahman Al-Gallaf, won a bronze in the javelin competition.

Saja Al-Azmi grabbed a silver medal in the javelin competition for females, while Noura Al-Majdi won a bronze in the discus. She also qualified for the paralympic tournament that would be hosted by Brazil next year and the global championship for the disabled, due in Qatar in December.
