Around 200 detonators, grenades stolen from French base

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) More than 200 detonators and grenades were stolen Sunday from a high-security French military base in the country's south, reported France's Europe 1 radio on Tuesday.

The French radio station reported that at least 180 detonators and 40 hand grenades had been stolen from the military base in the commune of Miramas, in southern France

Miramas mayor Frederic Vigouroux confirmed the report to Anadolu Agency and stated that the base was "well-guarded".

"We were surprised to hear about the robbery," Vigouroux said, adding that an inquiry was launched into the robbery.

The military base located in the Miramas commune is known to have strict security measures as it stocks ammunition used during international military operations, like the one in Afghanistan.

Experts cited by French media believe only a person - or a group of people - who knew the base could have penetrated the military site.
