Oman- Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs signs pact to implement radiation monitoring project


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs (MECA) has signed an agreement to implement the first stage of a project to expand early warning system for radiation monitoring in Oman.

H E Mohammed bin Salim bin Said al Toobi Minister of Environment and Climate Affairs on Tuesday signed the pact with Mike McCall CEO of the Canadian company International Safety Research to implement the first stage of the project at a cost of RO463000.

The first stage of the project includes a study to identify new sites to construct system stations. The study will cover all governorates including islands in order to choose the best sites for monitoring. The proposed sites will be ranked according to priority and preference.

The stage will also include preparation of technical specifications for the system designing the stations and offer the specifications to prepare a complete tender document for the second stage of the project.

The second stage comprises building arranging operating and maintaining the warning stations and offering oversight services for operating and maintenance programme and providing training to employees.

This will ensure that the essential design complies with the recent standards issued by the International Atomic Energy Agency.

The Canadian company won the tender on the basis of its experience besides technical and financial presentations.
