Suicide bomber targets mosque in Nigeria's Kano State


(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) A suicide bomber € said to have been a teenage female € blew herself up outside a prominent mosque in Nigeria's northwestern Kano State on Monday night, killing herself and injuring several others, according to a police spokesman.

"At around 9:30pm, a female suicide bomber, a teenager, attempted to enter the popular Umar Bin Khattab Mosque... but was denied entry," Kano police spokesman Magaji Majiya told Anadolu Agency on Tuesday morning.

"She blew herself up instantly," Majiya said. "A few others were injured, but there were no other deaths."

Ismail Zamari, a local resident who frequently prays at the mosque, said the blast occurred shortly after late night prayers.

"Security men standing outside the mosque stopped her from entering after she tried to come in through the entrance reserved for male worshippers," Zamari said.

"It was God's will," he told Anadolu Agency.
