India- Kejriwal assures cable operators over review of entertainment tax

(MENAFN- KNN India) The Cable Operator's Welfare Federation (COWF) has sought from the government for portability of set-top boxes to enable the consumer to switch from one network to another, review of entertainment tax and also backing on CAS.

A delegation of Cable Operator's Welfare Federation (COWF) called on the Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal, on Monday at the Delhi Secretariat.

The issue of CAS was discussed during the meeting. The Cable operators were of the view that the CAS system should be brought back doing away with the DAS system as it is against the common people of the city. They said that CAS gave choice to the viewer to pay according to what they want to watch, however, DAS forced them to pay for a bouquet even if they don't watch several channels offered in the bouquet.

The Chief Minister said that the government will see how it can intervene on the issue of getting back to CAS system from the existing DAS system.

The second issue raised by the COWF was of portability of set-top boxes, which will enable the consumer to switch from one network to another.

Kejriwal said that it was true that there should be the facility of portability in set-top boxes. He said that this would give more power to the people to watch according to their choice. He said that he will see how this could be done and the government will do all possible for the same.

The delegation also raised the issue of hike in entertainment tax from Rs 20 to Rs 40 per connection. The delegation requested the Chief Minister to review the hike in the entertainment tax for cable operators. The Chief Minister said that the government will examine the demand positively.
