Tusk calls for urgent Eurogroup summit to discuss Greek debt crisis


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The President of the European Council Donald Tusk on Monday sent a letter to the leaders of the 19-member Eurogroup inviting them to an informal meeting here on Tuesday evening.

"Following the referendum in Greece, I believe that we should urgently meet at the highest political level to discuss the situation and possible ways forward," he said in his letter.

Tusk said he has also invited the President of the European Central Bank and the President of the Eurogroup to join the meeting.

Meanwhile, in Athens Greek state-run TV ERT reported that the Greek government is contemplating to extend the closure of banks for a few more days but no official decision has been taken as yet, Last week, the Greek government decided to close the banks for one week and impose capital controls after the failure of talks between Athens and its western creditors.
