Jordan- PM meets representatives of civil society institution


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour on Monday met with representatives of the civil society institutions who are planning to take an initiative to establish a coordinating commission comprising 13 institutions of developmental and legal nature.

At the meeting, attended by a number of ministers, Ensour was briefed by Executive President of the Center for Defending Freedom of Journalists (CDFJ) on the idea of establishing the new body and its hoped-for-role in unifying efforts and enhancing cooperation and partnership between these institutions and the government, and thus adding to people's confidence.

Representatives of the civil society institutions, who attended the meeting, presented their views on the best means to maximize benefit from these institutions when it comes to issues pertaining to legislation, development, employment and human rights.

The prime minister stressed the government's belief in the important role played by civil society institutions in social and voluntary work, noting that work at these institutions should be institutional and in line with criteria of justice, transparency and democracy.
