Istanbul wakes up to hostage crisis


(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) A gunman has been arrested by Turkish police after he took a group of people hostage at a construction site in Istanbul.

Details are still emerging but the 55-year-old man, identified only as 'Ahmet K.' is reported to have held a group captive in Bayrampasa, a district on the European side of the city.

According to initial reports, the gunman had been in dispute with managers of a construction project in the area.

Police, after securing the scene, eventually persuaded the hostage-taker to surrender and took him into custody.
