Syrian regime airstrikes kill 5 east of Damascus: Sources

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) Five people were killed and scores injured late Sunday by airstrikes carried out by the Syrian military in the town of Aid Tarma in Eastern Ghouta east of Damascus, sources from the Syrian Civil Defense (SCD) group told Anadolu Agency.

"Regime jets carried out five airstrikes on the town," the sources said, adding that the death toll may rise further, citing the possibility that victims of the strikes were "still stuck under collapsed buildings."

According to eyewitnesses, regime airstrikes have continued over recent days and have left numerous civilians dead or wounded.

According to its website, the SCD is a "politically impartial" group of Syria-based humanitarian workers devoted to minimizing human and material damage caused by the conflict.

The UN says that more than 220,000 people have been killed in Syria since the conflict began in mid-2011 between the regime of President Bashar al-Assad and heavily armed opposition groups.
