Authorities Flesh Out Details Of Mosque Attack

(MENAFN- Arab Times) Security authorities in Kuwait have revealed further details about the recent terrorist attack on Imam Al-Sadiq Mosque from the time the Saudi suicide bomber Fahad Al-Qaba'a arrived at Kuwait International Airport to after he blew himself up using an explosives belt, reports Al-Rai daily quoting informed sources.

They explained that Abdulrahman Sabah, the driver who took the terrorist to the mosque, was given the explosives belt four days before the bomb blast, after he was contacted by the terrorist group DAESH and instructed to meet two people in Al-Zour area.

They gave him an ice box in which they had concealed the explosives belt and instructed him on its use. They told him that the targeted mosque had been selected and was being carefully monitored and that he should have no worries.

On Thursday, one day before the attack, Abdulrahman was informed by DAESH that a man wearing a red ghitra and a light brown thawb (traditional Arabian headdress and robe) will be waiting for him at a hotel in the Farwaniya area on Friday at 7:00 am. On Friday, June 26, the two men met at the hotel after which Abdulrahman took Fahad Al-Qaba'a to his house before heading to a supermarket to buy shaving blades.

They carried the icebox into the house after which Al-Qaba'a took off his clothes and wore the explosives belt and then a loose thawb to conceal it and avoid attracting attention. Abdulrahman gave him a white ghitra. Abdulrahman instructed al-Qaba'a on how to detonate the explosives and then encouraged him by saying his act will send him to Paradise.

After driving to Imam Al-Sadiq Mosque, Abdulrahman parked his car 150 meters away from the mosque. Al- Qaba'a stepped out of the car and walked to the mosque without attracting the attention of the securitymen in the area. He then blew himself up inside the mosque, killing 26 worshippers and wounding 227 others.

Following the explosion, Abdulrahman drove to the Sulaibiya area where he contacted DAESH to inform them that the mission was accomplished successfully.

The sources said, "He was afraid and contacted his brother to warn him of possible security operations and raids against religious people. When he asked his brother for a hideout, the latter took him to his second flat in the Salmiya area, leaving behind the vehicle used to transport the suicide bomber in Sulaibiya".

The sources went on to explain that the clothes worn by Al-Qaba'a during his trip from Saudi Arabia to Kuwait via Bahrain was found in the car along with the icebox in which the explosives belt was placed. Abdulrahman had spent the night with his brother and four of his friends in the flat in Salmiya and the next day, he went to Riqqa area where he and his wife were renting part of a house that belonged to another suspect Fahad Shakhir.

Eventually, security authorities arrested Abdulrahman and his wife from that house and detained them for investigations. "During the questioning, he admitted to his role in the attack and provided details about the operation. He also revealed the identities of the other suspects and their relationship with DAESH", sources added.

Meanwhile, Ministry of Interior had revealed that the suicide bomber, Fahad Sulaiman Abdulmohsen Al-Qaba'a had arrived at Kuwait International Airport in a Gulf Air flight at dawn Friday.

Meanwhile, Saudi security authorities have informed Kuwait's State Security Department that two Saudi citizens belonging to DAESH had entered the country a month ago, reports Al-Shahed daily quoting informed sources.

They revealed that security authorities in the country have been searching for the two suspects, adding that the registers at the border checkpoints do not include their entry into the country even though their exit from Saudi Arabia was recorded.

Meanwhile, a Saudi, a Bedoun and 3 Turks were arrested at the Airport Road in possession of 57 mobile phones. When State Security officers received information from a reliable source about five suspicious men traveling in a car on the Airport Road, the officers, in coordination with Airport Security Department took precautionary measures and arrested the five individuals.

They seized 57 cellphones from their car and referred the suspects with the confiscated mobile phones to the concerned authorities for investigations. Initial investigations revealed that the suspects are involved in issues related to state security.

They are being interrogated to determine the extent of their association with extremist organizations. In addition, sources revealed that the State Security Department has listed 17 Arab expatriates among the wanted persons after investigations proved that they are affiliated to DAESH.

They affirmed that a comprehensive check on all visit visas is being carried out after information was received about entry of suspicious elements into the country.
