France's public debt hits USD2.33t in Q1


(MENAFN) According to the state statistics agency Insee, France's public debt has increased to more than USD2.33 trillion partly due to higher central state spending, Iran Daily reported.

The debt burden surged USD57.2 billion in the January-March period to USD2.335 trillion, accounting for 97.5 percent of gross domestic product (GDP), up from 95.6 percent of GDP in the fourth quarter.

During the period, the central state's debt USD43.2 billion to USD2.06 trillion or 87.1 percent of GDP. Since 1990, France's GDP has expanded slower than that of any other wealthy nation.
