Saudi- AK party and Turks
(MENAFN- Arab News) This is with reference to the report 'Turkey coalition talks to start next week: PM' (July 5). Turkey is going through a very delicate phase. Such political developments are normal things in vibrant democracies like Turkey or India but keeping in view the current situation across the Middle East Turkish politicians need to be very careful. Where there is a will there is a way. The leaders of Turkey should give priority to their national interests. Power politics at this stage is perilous.
The forces opposed to the Justice and Development Party (AK party) should not ignore the contributions of this party to the development of Turkey. Similarly the AK party should not think that it has done some kind of favor to the Turkish people as it is the duty of every patriotic political party to work in the larger interest of its country. We cannot deny the fact that of late President Recep Teyyip Erdogan's had been behaving strangely. Of course nobody could doubt his intentions. We are sure that he wants the best for his country and its people but sometimes one needs to be tolerant toward others who oppose his/her ideas. Intolerance unnecessarily creates friction which is not good for a vibrant country like Turkey.
Keeping in view the past record of the PKK the entry of PKK sympathizers into politics is not a good omen but that's what democracy is all about. The AK party should mend its ways and revisit its policies. I am sure that it is still the number one choice of Turkish people mainly due to its exemplary performance that has put Turkey on the path of progress. Tajwar Jamal Jeddah
