UAE- Football: Kuwait confirm hosting of Gulf Cup

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Al Fahad revealed that the venues are still not ready to host the tournament but he promised to provide all necessary funds to get the job done according to the standards of the organising committee.

Dubai — Shaikh Dr. Talal Al Fahad Al-Sabah Chairman of the Kuwaiti Football Association (KFA) announced that the 23rd renewal of the Arabian Gulf Cup will be staged in Kuwait during the period from December 22 to January 4 2016 under the patronage of the Emir of Kuwait His Highness Shaikh Sabah Al Ahmed.

Speaking during the meeting of the heads of the GCC football associations Al Fahad revealed that the venues are still not ready to host the tournament but he promised to provide all necessary funds to get the job done according to the standards of the organising committee.

According to the Kuwaiti News Agency (KUNA) a decision to the effect is expected to be taken by the Gulf Football Higher Organising Committee during its next meeting in Kuwait on July 27.

Speaking at a news conference after the extraordinary meetings of the GCC football chiefs in Kuwait Al Fahad said the top sports officials have examined the reports which were presented by the organising committee noting that the Kuwaiti stadiums are not prepared to host the matches.

But Al Fahad confirmed that the concerned Kuwaiti authorities would meet the conditions which were set by the organising committee to host the championship and criticised time-wasting bureaucratic procedures at state’s departments.

Meanwhile the meeting renewed support for Qatar with respect to hosting the 2022 World Cup saying some objections against Doha “might be based on racial rather than sports or administrative reasons.”
