Crime fighting in Oman to get more teeth


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Investigation agencies are working to add more teeth to the sultanate's crime fighting mechanism. 

At a recent meeting the ROP and the Public Prosecution have decided to further strengthen mutual cooperation and amp up criminal investigation by bringing in the latest technology in forensics.

Speaking to Muscat Daily an official from the Public Prosecution said 'The Public Prosecution recently held a high-level meeting with senior ROP officers with the aim of improving criminal investigation in the country.'

The highlight of the meeting was strengthening the existing investigation mechanism an ROP official said adding that CID officers from the police force and crime investigators from the Public Prosecution deliberated on a range of issues.

Both sides have stressed on relying more on the latest scientific and technological advancements which means that the sultanate's forensic labs will be armed with state-of-the-art  machinery and software used in cracking cases. Such an addition will be a boost to forensic experts working on biological and chemical evidences tracking counterfeiting ballistics etc.

Currently a joint training programme is held for Public Prosecutors and sleuths from ROP's Directorate General of Criminal Investigations for exchange of expertise the ROP official said.
