Website promotes tourism, acts as gateway to Oman

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The founder of the website All About Oman (www.allaboutoman.com) says his site not only aims to promote tourism but also provide extensive information to travellers and researchers alike.

According to Sarhan al Harthy there are not many sites that help explore the dynamics of Oman. 'I found that there are many websites about Oman but most of them don't provide extensive information' he said. The site which gets thousands of hits every month can also be a reference point for citizens who wish to know more about their country said Harthy.

He has travelled around the country to compile a list of hotels and restaurants located in each governorate and worked with the Ministry of Tourism.

Harthy a mechanical engineer said he started this venture as he wanted to make a difference and do his bit for the country.

'I believe that tourism will play a big role for the country. Being a citizen and being a son of this country it is my duty to fulfil His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said's vision. I thought this was maybe one way of fulfilling his idea.'

Launched in 2012 the portal caters to every aspect of a traveller's need through its various sections. The 'Must See Places' section gives information about cities across governorates. It also has an 'Eat and Drink' section which lists fine dining and fast food restaurants located in the area. The 'accommodation' section with its range of hotels and camp sites offers a range of options for travellers.

The site also has three video travel guides weather updates and links to sites like Muscat Festival. The photo gallery provides information on Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque and frankincense.

Available in English German French Italian and Arabic the portal acts like a gateway to the country Harthy said. 'This website will be like a gateway to the country.'

He has also introduced a mobile app for the site.

Harthy said he hopes All About Oman will continue to grow in the future.
