Libya: Five soldiers killed, 27 injured in Benghazi

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) Five soldiers from the Libyan army were killed and 27 others were injured in a land mine explosion in Libya's eastern city of Benghazi on Friday.

"Two soldiers were killed in a land mine explosion in Benghazi's Bouatni district, which hosts severe fighting between army troops and the Ansar al-Sharia group," an official in the Libyan army attached to the Parliament of Tobruk said.

A source who requested anonymity said three other soldiers were injured in an explosion during search operations in the area.

Meanwhile, three soldiers were also killed and 24 others were injured in an attack by Ansar al-Sharia and other groups against the headquarters of the military police in Bouhdima, Benghazi, the source added.

Two assemblies currently vie for legislative authority in the country. The Tobruk-based House of Representatives and the General National Congress, which € even though its mandate ended last year € continues to convene in Tripoli.

Libya has remained in a state of turmoil since a bloody uprising ended the decades-long rule of Muammar Gaddafi in late 2011.
