Ooredoo Fibre roll-out to propel Qatar to Top 5 slot

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The next phase of Ooredoo Fibre roll-out will position Qatar as "one of the top five countries" in the world for fibre penetration upon completion, said company chairman HE Sheikh Abdulla bin Mohamed bin Saud al-Thani.

Speaking at the Ooredoo's annual 'Ghabga', a special social gathering that brings employees together in the spirit of Ramadan, held at the Sheraton Doha on Friday night he said "the next phase of Ooredoo Fibre roll-out has begun."

Sheikh Abdulla outlined the "incredible" results Ooredoo achieved in Qatar in 2014, which saw the company grow its customer base to 3.3mn € a 10% increase on the previous year.

The company's success in fixed line and fibre services, with more than 225,000 homes already connected to Ooredoo Fibre, has been matched by its success in the mobile space.

Ooredoo was the first company in Qatar to offer 4G and 4G+ services, and continues to offer the "biggest, fastest and best" network supported by an "incredible" range of data and digital content services.

Sheikh Abdulla said, "We have shown, time and again, that Ooredoo delivers the very best for Qatar, and that the people of Qatar can rely on us for the best network, the best service, and the best results. We have seen that there is huge demand in Qatar for data services, and Ooredoo has evolved to become the best-adapted company to meet this demand, and anticipate the changing digital needs of the people of Qatar."

In addition, the Ooredoo chairman highlighted the success of the roll-out of the company brand, which has now become "one of the top communication brands in the world."

Sheikh Abdulla played tribute to Ooredoo's colleagues in markets such as Iraq and Tunisia, who continued to deliver strong results in spite of the turbulence in those areas.

He also congratulated Ooredoo Algeria, for its success with the launch of 3G services where it now held a leadership position, and Ooredoo Kuwait, which successfully launched 4G+ in 2015.

In every market, Ooredoo is attaining a leadership position in data services, and pioneering advances in the areas of smart services, superfast mobile Internet and Ooredoo Fibre.

In Qatar, the initial roll-out of Ooredoo Fibre in 2013 set the record as the fastest roll-out in the world, and the company has continued to extend the reach of fibre into new areas, to boost the knowledge-based economy and enable customers to access the financial, educational and community services that high-speed Internet can provide.

The next phase of fibre roll-out will provide total national coverage, and position Qatar in the top rank of nations for fibre connectivity.

Ooredoo's Fibre network offers some of the best fibre availability in the world, with a response rate of higher than 99.999%, and maximum residential data speeds of up to 1Gbps.
