Veteran Andrade Wins '3 Shooting Areas Challenge'

(MENAFN- Arab Times) One of the finest and "Veteran" FAST Member Sunny Andrade has proven once again that experience and class will surely reap the Top Spot on weekly's FAST Funshoot Competition. While his buddy "El Presidente" Ronil Garcia also secured the win for professional Category. Due to "call of duty", veteran Sunny Andrade was not able to participate for several weeks of FAST Funshoots, but it seems that he was practicing with his foot works and had brought his game face on to secure the win on Standard A Category, the main event of this competition. He was fast on his ran and had a very good accuracy. On the Professional Category, El Presidente Ronil Garcia had been working hard and finally got his 3rd win for this year.

The "3 Shooting Areas" scenario was another brilliant creation of FAST President Ronil Garcia with the help of Chollo Garcia, Ali Al Habib and FAST Vice President Cesar Isidro. These dedicated members made sure to arrive early at the range and setup the scenario for everyone to enjoy.

The Scenario had 3 shooting areas, in which the name came from it. First shooting area is in the middle of the range where a door is placed. The shooter can open the door but only 1 foot is allowed to block the door from closing and the shooter was never allowed to get inside, and then engage 2 targets at 7 meters. Going to the left and right of this shooting area, there was 1 hard covered target (1/2 of the normal size) at 5 meters. The second shooting area is located on the left side of the range with 3 targets placed approximately 5, 7 and 13 meters. There was a challenge here as 1 target is a 6inch paper target that will surely slow down the shooters to make sure they can hit it dead on. The third shooting area was located on the right most of the range. This is the same setup as the second shooting area.

Before the start of the competition, Garcia briefed all the participants and reminded them that safety was the priority of both the range and the organization and that no compromise would be accepted in this regard. The organizers also applied a soft rule on the charge line wherein the shooters were allowed to step on the charge lines without getting a procedural penalty. Meanwhile, hitting a barricade and no shoots will acquire a procedural penalty on every hit.

An aggregate scoring method is used to calculate the final score for each competitor with a bullet in Alpha earning 5 points, while in Bravo and Charlie brought 3 points and Delta 1 point. The time taken to complete the shoot plays a major part in the standing as the total score is divided by the time taken over the course to get the result.

The shooters could also face a lot of penalties such as missed shot or procedural error could result in a deduction of 10 points for each infringement. The shooter can elect to do another run or more but as a rule, only the first attempt of the competition will be considered and scored.

The weekly fun shoots would not be a success without the commitment of Filipino Action Shooting Team (FAST) officers, led by FAST President Ronil Garcia and FAST Vice President Cesar Isidro with the support of Gen. Ahmed Al Saleem. They are being guided by R.O. Wilbert Zingapan, one of the finest Range Officer in the area to ensure safety with the overall supervision of Chief Instructor Eric Ragma.

Sunny Andrade showed class when he outran all the competitors by finishing the course at 31.82 seconds, split second slower from the fastest shooter on Cat A of 31.60 seconds. Since he had a very good accuracy on hitting 13 Alphas, 1 Bravo, 5 Charlies and a Delta, he managed to win the top slot on Category A. His hit factor was 2.6398.

One of the youngest and very competitive shooter Saleh Al-Awadhi had again displayed how the course to be tackled. He was the fastest on Cat A to finish the course at 31.60 seconds only. But since he traded speed for accuracy, he incurred 1 miss which put him on the second place. He got 15 Alphas, 4 Deltas, a hit factor of 2.4367, so close to the top shooter.

Completing the "Tough Three" was FAST Vice President Cesar Isidro who was been very good on his shooting skills as he had a perfect ran with 12 Alphas, 5 Charlies and 3 Deltas, having a hit factor of 2.2178. Isidro was starting to be consistent on his hits lately as few weeks before, he was slightly tad off with his accuracy.

Ali Al Habib who also missed several weeks of shooting, finally showed up and took up the scenario very seriously. He made sure to have several mock rans but unfortunately during the actual ran, his faced gun malfunctions which took him time to clear. He finished the course at 106 seconds, hitting 9 Alphas, 4 Charlies, 3 Deltas and 4 Misses. Hit Factor is 0.1887. Since he was unhappy on his first attempt, he opted to take the course once again and completed at 40.36 seconds but sustained 6 misses which got 0 as his hit factor.

Meanwhile in the Professional Category, El Presidente Ronil Garcia confirmed that practice and hard work earned him his 3rd Title for this year. He was fast on his feet just almost a second behind the fastest shooter of the night. With his steady hands, he shot 13 Alphas, 6 Charlies and a Delta getting the Top hit factor of 3.4783.

Second place was taken by Chief Firearms Instructor Eric Ragma, which was very smooth on his ran and showed everyone how to break down the course in just 23.10 seconds, the fastest time for this competition. Doing so, we got a miss on 1 of the hardest 6inches target that brought down his ranking to second best. He shot 12 Alphas, 7 Charlies and a Mike which it is not normal for him. His hit factor was 3.0736.

Daniel Marjanovic who is a regular weekly shooter had placed himself to the "Tough 3" on professional category. With his very sharp eyes, he shot 17 Alphas and 3 Charlies, making him the most accurate shooter. Although his time was a bit slower at 39.35 seconds, it was still a very good ran. He gained the hit factor of 2.3888. He took another attempt and pushed himself a bit faster at 37.91 seconds but accuracy fell short, hitting 14 Alphas, 5 Charlies and 1 Delta, hit factor of 2.2685.

Lastly, Mohammed Al Sadoon was the brave member to be the first shooter of the night. We was fast but somehow confused his 2 magazine loading which he dropped 2 live rounds and wasn't able to shot a target. Hence, he was penalized by 2 misses plus another 2 bullets that weren't able to land on the target. He got 13 Alphas, 1 Bravo, a Charlie and Delta, enough to get him a hit factor of 1.0892. To redeem himself, he took the course once again and this time got a very good results of 15 Alphas, 5 Charlies at 30.89 seconds sufficient to place him to the "Tough 3" but second attempts wont count.

FAST officials have also added that all newcomers and members wishing to participate in the weekly shoots should come to the range well ahead of time for a "dry run" over the course. The aim of this dry run is to ensure the newcomers safety as well as that of all those present at the range. Those newcomers who fail to turn up for this dry run will not be allowed to take part in the actual competition.

On the other hand, FAST officials would like to invite everyone on Tuesday evenings to the weekly fun shoot competitions at 2030 hours (Ramadam timing).
