Qatar Charity dispatches 10 more food trucks to Syria

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Qatar Charity has sent 10 food trucks to safe areas in Syria in co-operation with White Hands Charity Association as part of the Doha-based charity's efforts to distribute food to more than 42,000 people in the strife-torn country.

Earlier this month, QC dispatched 27 food trucks to help the Syrians.

The 10 new food trucks were distributed in the city centre, Anjarah, Kafr Naseh, Al Mansoura, Al Rabia, Azaz, Marea, Tal Rifaat, Adnan of Aleppo, Saraqib, Abu Douhour, Milis, Sijar, Jabal Al Zawiya, Khan Sheikhoun, Al Tah, Jarjanaz, Taftanaz, Atama, Sarmeen of Idlib, Mount Shashabo, Al Lataminah, Qalaat Al Madiq of Hama, Marj Al Zawiya, Al Najeya, Obeen, Badama, Kinsabba, and Dweirka in Al Sahel.

Qatar Charity was eager to deliver Ramadan baskets a few days before the onset of the holy month of Ramadan to allow 8,000 families to benefit from the food supplies from the start of the month.

Each basket contains adequate amount of basic food items needed during Ramadan, such as groats, rice, green lentils, red lentils, macaroni, tomato paste, sugar, chickpeas, cooking oil, ready-made soup, halvah, jam, olive oil, semolina, salt, flour, and canned peas.

Ibrahim Ali Abel, Director of Relief Department in Qatar Charity, who supervised the project and the convoy, highlighted the need to increase budgets for this project and the need to expend additional effort to reach victims in the countries witnessing political crises and natural disasters. "This requires increasing the allocated budget and efforts made to reach them in the areas where they are displaced."

Approximately 106,000 Syrians, representing over 15,000 families, have benefited from a convoy of 27 food trucks that Qatar Charity dispatched earlier.

The total cost of the convoy, which was distributed in co-ordination with the Turkish IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation, was more than QR3.6mn. Two food baskets were distributed to each family, to meet their expected needs during the holy month.

Qatar Charity's Ramadan projects for this year include special food assistance for Syrian refugees and displaced persons totalling QR7.3mn targeting 230,000 persons.

Qatar Charity takes great efforts to aiding the Syrian people, whether those internally displaced or refugees in other countries. A total of 4.2mn persons benefited from QC projects totalling QR205mn from April 2011 to January 2015.
