Egypt- Japan condemns deadly attacks in North Sinai


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Japan on Thursday strongly condemned terrorist attacks that targeted Egyptian forces in North Sinai of Egypt on the previous day, saying acts of terrorism cannot be justified for any reason.

"Japan deeply deplores the terrorist attacks against military checkpoints in North Sinai, which caused many victims among Egyptian soldiers," Foreign Ministry Press Secretary Yasuhisa Kawamura said in a statement.

Japan offers its condolences to his families and extends its heartfelt sympathy to those who were injured, said Kawamura.

"Japan resolutely condemns terrorism in all its forms, and expresses its solidarity with the government of Egypt and its people." According to media reports, a series of attacks on the military checkpoints killed over 70 Egyptian soldiers and injured many others. The Egyptian Military, however, said that 17 soldiers and 100 militants were killed in the attacks.

The spokesman also said Japan hopes that security in Egypt will be stabilized promptly and will actively support Egypt's efforts for establishment and development of a democratic society as well as realization of economic and social stability.
