Oman's Lahoob clinches title

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Four-time UAE jockey champion Tadhg O'Shea led Lahoob owned by Oman's Sheikh Nasser al Hashar to victory in the prestigious Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al Nahyan Cup (Group 3) race at the Duindigt racecourse in The Hague Netherlands on Sunday.

Competing in the second leg of the 2015 Triple Crown Lahoob shocked European Triple Crown champion Ameretto under Mauro Manueddu on its way to victory.

The European Triple Crown in the Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al Nahyan Cup series organised by the H H Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival comprises three races. The first race was held in Toulouse France and the third will be in Warsaw Poland.

Also Oman's Maghazi under Denmark's Ingrid Grard and owned by Sheikh Mohammed Nasser al Hashar finished runner-up in the H H Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Ladies World Championship race. Lisa O'Neill of Ireland on the
race-favourite Badi won the race.

In the Group 3 Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al Nahyan Cup that was run over 1900m it was Ameretto that started as the favourite under Manueddu after the nine year old's impressive win in Poland in a similar Sheikh Zayed Cup race last month.

Lahoob under Harry Bentley had also upset favourite Al Hibaab under O'Shea and won the Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al Nahyan Cup Group 1 PA race at Lingfield Park UK on May 9.

With O'Shea now on the Beverly Deutrom-trained Lahoob it seemed to be the Irishman's turn to stun the favourite with an almost start-to-finish affair and he won by a length.

Al Mouwaffak winner of the 2000m first leg on April 17 in the Toulouse Cup in France was not part of the starting line-up in Duindigt.

The third leg will be held in Warsaw Poland on August 23.

The two premier races of the Festival were held along with the Wathba Stud Farm Cup which was also won by O'Shea on Margaret de Ruiter-owned Rodin.

H E Abdullah al Naqbi the UAE's Ambassador to The Netherlands; Adnan Sultan al Nuaimi the director general of Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club; and Lara Sawaya the executive director of the H H Sheikh

Mansoor bin Zayed al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival gave away the trophies to the winners of the races.
