Oman- OFA chief to attend Gulf Cup meeting


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Sayyid Khalid al Busaidy the chairman of the Oman Football Association (OFA) left for Kuwait on Tuesday to take part in an extraordinary meeting of the heads of the GCC football federations to discuss the hosting of the 23rd Gulf Cup on Wednesday.

He is being accompanied on the trip by Sultan al Zadjali the OFA's general secretary and CEO.

The Gulf Cup will be held in Kuwait City from December 25-January 7. The decision to award the hosting rights to Kuwait was taken in February. Iraq was initially scheduled to host the event. The draw for the tournament will be held on September 25.

Qatar won the 22nd edition of the Gulf Cup in Saudi Arabia last year.

National futsal team camp begins
Oman's futsal team began its first camp with 19 probables under coach Younis al Fahdi at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex (SQSC) on Monday as it prepares for the Gulf Futsal Championship to be held in Bahrain in October.

Following the camp that is expected to be held for two weeks the probables will regroup in August before the final squad travels to Iran the following month for another camp.

After the GCC tournament in October Oman will compete in the qualifiers for the AFC Asian Futsal Championship in November. The main tournament will be played in Tashkent Uzbekistan from February 9-20.
